Aim High and Reach for the Sky

Today is your day!

Whatever you dream of, you can achieve it!  Just reach for it.

You will succeed more than you ever imagined.  Yes some doors will close but I guarantee others will open.

Don't compare

Comparing ourselves to others always leads us to feelings of inadequacy.  This is your race.  The only one you are competing against is you.

Over the years I have learnt that my harshest critic is me.   I tend to hold myself back because I fear what others will think or say.

Experiment

Thinking about my last blog, is it a burglar or a cat? (The battle within)

My fears might not be realized.  What if everything goes right? What if I get that promotion?  Isn't it worth a gamble?  Well I think it is. In my post Jump before you are ready I talk about the importance of investing in yourself. (Be it a little exercise or whatever)

Fear (anxiety) is ok unless it controls our life. Fear is an emotion that is there to protect us. It prompts a fight or flight response.  Worrying about getting on the wrong bus to get to work for example, prompts us to check the timetable more closely.  But constant fear about what others think is not ok, as it isn't something we can control.  Fear sends us into fight or flight mode which diverts blood flow away from our brains to our lungs, legs and arms.  This means our ability to think clearly becomes impaired. I usually notice I am in this mode when I feel butterflies in my stomach. There are a whole host of other clues.

See the Cleveland Clinic guide to what is happening to our bodies during fight or flight mode

Our anxieties are there to keep us safe but sadly while we have developed, the mechanisms to keep us safe have remained unchanged. They are still based on something that happened to us a long time ago.  Yes they may have worked back then but this time is different.

I bet you that your worst fear will not be realised.

Tool Kit

In my post Socially Anxious, Socially Awkward Ellen Hendrikson PHD talks about how "anxiety thrives on uncertainty." So an answer to this is be specific. What is it I am worried will happen? Who won't like me? and so on.

The other issue holding us back is perfectionism.  Sadly nothing is perfect yet we all try to attain something we will never achieve.  David Burns "Dare to be average - Overcome perfectionism" found he achieved more, felt more fulfilled when he stopped aiming for perfection." With no pressure holding him back he was able to succeed more.  A word of warning aiming to be average isn't easy and the habit of perfectionism is hard to remove.

I challenge you today to do one thing that scares you. Even if that thing is getting out of bed, you will have achieved something amazing.  Believe me any movement towards a goal with give you the power you need to achieve the next goal.  You will feel better and you will like yourself more.

One last thing, You are amazing and I love you. Go get em.

Amazing Ways to Turn Failure Into Triumph

Amazing ways to turn failure into triumph!   As I stand in this pit of despair having fallen a long way, a few thoughts come to mind: ·         Everyone fails at some point. ·         Fail doesn’t mean the end. It means First Attempt. ·         Tesla.   Don’t Give Up Be More like Musk Elon Musk had the vision to develop the first all-electric car.   Starting with the roadster he had to overcome insurmountable hurdles.   Such as the company losing money, low sales, having to build their parts on-site rather than rely on suppliers.   Despite all the challenges, he found ways around them.     His approach was different from that of any other car maker (such as General Motors) build the car he envisaged first, then work on the problems as they arose.   There was always a lot of staff turnover from all levels in the compan...

5 best things to reduce anxiety

Do you ever worry? Does anxiety seem to hold you back? Well this article is here to help.  Now sit back and we'll get started with 5 things you can do take control back.  Our brains are wired to keep us safe.  Sometimes these mechanisms designed to keep us from harm when we were living in caves, fighting off wild animals can worry us for little reason.   When we start to worry about something our brain goes into what we call fight or flight mode.  In other words it prepares us to fight off an attacker or flee.  Whether there is a physical threat or an imagined one, the brain cannot tell the difference.  The brain diverts blood flow from non-essential organs to ones that will help while we prepare to flee.  So you might experience difficulty in thinking clearly and feeling nauseas.  20 Second breath hold When this happens we cannot think straight.  At this point holding your breath for 20 seconds can help to clear your mind.  Tr...

Importance of Mental Health

I am sitting on the beach with my dog.  Just helped a lady to jump-start her car.  That's the positive, the negative is I am currently unemployed due to mistakes I made a work last year.  My previous employer has complained to the nursing council about me.    I had been planning on leaving nursing for a few years now and had found that I have a lot of talents as a teacher.  During my nearly 17 years as a nurse, I have gained a lot of teaching skills and a teaching qualification.   As special educational needs is a passion of mine due to my 3 children and my sister all of whom have special educational needs I a completed a diploma in Special Educational Needs and Disabilities. I have also been working on other skills which will make me employable such as marketing, business studies, employment law and so on. Back to the NMC investigation.  When I heard about the complaints I was working as a teaching assistant in a school for children with pred...
